AutoCAD Civil 3D Surface Modeling for Existing Conditions I
This class examines the creation of Surfaces, or Digital Terrain Models, used by AutoCAD Civil 3D as the basis for profiles, sections, volumes and grading. As Surfaces are the simplest of all Civil 3D objects in terms of organization, the class serves as a further examination of Civil 3D fundamentals as related to Styles and Settings. This is the first of two detailed classes exploring existing conditions Surface creation, focusing on basics of surface modeling in Civil 3D, including data types, workflow and critical settings for successfully building accurate TIN’s. Additional details of surface creation from Points and Breaklines covered in a subsequent class. This class further explores how Surfaces are managed and controlled in Civil 3D, and Surface editing and display.
Existing conditions Surfaces provide the foundation on which all other aspects of the Engineering Model are based in Civil 3D. This class examines the preparation of accurate surfaces from several types of photogrammetric data, with suggestions for developing a working spec for Aerial data for use with the civil product. The class further explores how Surfaces are managed and controlled in Civil 3D, and Surface editing and display.
Sample Topics:
Introduction to the Civil 3D Surface Object
Surface Object Styles
Types of Data for Use in Digital Terrain Modeling
Civil and Civil 3D Surface Types
Critical Surface Feature Settings
Creating a Surface
Controlling Surface Display
Surface Editing
Managing Civil 3D Surfaces and Data Security
Civil 3D Short Courses are presented in a lecture format, with a live, instructor-led demonstration in Civil 3D. The classes follow a single representative surveying and civil engineering project from preliminary evaluation through existing conditions modeling with survey and aerial data, and on into design. Classes vary in length from two to three hours depending on content. A workbook is provided for each Civil 3D Short Course, and the class dataset is available for download from an FTP site following each class.
Each Civil 3D Short Course focuses on a particular task within the program, from navigating the interface, creating and managing Surface, Point, Alignment and other data, through Project Management and on to more advanced topics such as Creating Corridors and Site Grading.
Although not a substitute for hands-on training, the instructor-led format of Civil 3D Short Courses provides an opportunity for interaction with the instructor not attainable through web-based classes, still at nominal cost.
Civil 3D Short Courses are currently offered on the 2011 release of Civil 3D.
Civil 3D Short Courses are registered Continuing Education classes with the AIA, and meet continuing education/professional development requirements for Pennsylvania and New York. CivilTraining.com, through our association with Graphics Solution Providers Inc., is a Board certified Continuing Education Provider for NJ Land Surveyors by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. The majority of the Civil 3D Short Courses are approved for NJ Continuing Competency/PDH requirements as indicated in the individual class descriptions. Each Civil 3D Short Course qualifies for 3 AIA CES\LU's or NJ PDH's
